here is another of my Degas studies from my teen years. It is on regular cardboard. Lautrec used to paint on cardboard and use the color of the board as his mid-tone so I did this for years and still do. It is better than a white ground...I like to "add" white to my work as opposed to leaving the white paper as the highlight.
